The Wasserkuppe is considered one of the most snow-sure non-Alpine regions in Germany. Here, at almost 1000 meters altitude, the landscape is often deeply snow-covered between December and March – often even when spring has already arrived in the valleys.
Now is the time for skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing , cross-country skiing , and snowkiting . A tandem paragliding flight over the snow-covered slopes of the Wasserkuppe offers a particularly intense nature experience . Those with a bit of stamina can also enjoy a snowshoe hike up here.
Hiking tip: Circular route via the Wasserkuppe
You don't need any special equipment for a walk across the summit of the Wasserkuppe. The main paths are generally easily accessible even in winter.
Weather permitting, you can enjoy a unique panoramic view across the snow-covered High Rhön region and far into Hesse, Bavaria, and Thuringia. The trees appear as if wrapped in cotton wool, and the snowkiters and paragliders also offer interesting photo opportunities.

On certain winter days, the Wasserkuppe is only accessible by car with winter equipment. Because the Wasserkuppe ski area is very popular, booking as early as possible is recommended.
