The Wasserkuppe invites you to go winter hiking!

On an average of around 60 – 100 winter days, the highest mountain in Hessen is covered in deep snow. Even visitors who do not want to use any of the many winter sports opportunities will get their money’s worth in winter.

Deeply snow-covered fairytale forest and wide, glittering areas

It is always a special experience to hike through the deep snowy forest or across the wide, glittering surfaces.

When the high altitudes of the Rhön are still illuminated by the winter sun, while in the valley there is often a thick fog all day long, then the silence on the mountain can be enjoyed excellently during a hike.

You decide whether you want to leave it at a short round through the fairytale forest to the Radom and back or whether you want to go on a half-day or day hike.

Photographers will also find many exciting motifs during winter hiking – from bizarrely icy trees to wide panoramic views… All the way to the winter starry sky, which can be photographed here in the Sternenpark Rhön especially on clear winter nights.

Tip: Snowshoe hiking

You can also rent snowshoes at the ski rental Wasserkuppe in the Hotel Deutscher Flieger directly on the Wasserkuppe. Thus winter hiking is possible even when there is fresh snow.

At the end of a winter hiking day we recommend a cosy end at the open fireplace in the restaurant Peterchens Mondfahrt.
