Striking basalt peak with alpine flair

The Pferdskopf forms the southwestern spur of the Wasserkuppe. Its steep slopes and rocky summit give the mountain an almost alpine feel.

Hiking trails from two sides

A steep ascent leads from Lake Guckai past the Goldborn spring up to the Pferdskopf summit. Coming from the Wasserkuppe, the summit can be reached via numerous wooden steps. Sturdy footwear and sure footing are recommended for both routes.

Launch site for hang gliders and paragliders

Hang gliders and paragliders traditionally launch from Pferdskopf when the wind is northwest. Tandem paragliding flights are also offered here when the wind is blowing in this direction.

Driving from Poppenhausen towards Wasserkuppe, the Pferdskopf appears higher than the Wasserkuppe, although at just under 875 meters above sea level it is lower than the 950-meter-high Wasserkuppe.
