Hesse's highest point

To be precise, the Wasserkuppe rises 950,2 meters above sea level.

The Wasserkuppe is therefore the highest mountain in the Rhön, the district of Fulda and also the highest elevation in Hesse.

At the summit, a basalt column typical of the Rhön region marks this "high point", just a few steps south of the radar dome.

You can reach the highest point in Hesse in just a few minutes on foot if you follow the signs to the "Infopunkt Gipfel" (summit information point).

In good weather, you have an unparalleled panoramic view from here over the Rhön region and far beyond.

Here you can understand why the low mountain range landscape in the border region of Bavaria, Hesse and Thuringia is also called the "Land of Open Vistas".
