The Papillon flight schools offer hang gliding courses for beginners on the Wasserkuppe.
Even though paragliding is much more popular today than hang gliding, training for the hang gliding license is still offered on the Wasserkuppe.
The six-day combined course concludes with the high-altitude flight qualification. It includes the complete theory for the A-license and 20 flights with altitude differences of up to 100m.
The combined courses begin at 10:00 AM on Sundays during the advertised course weeks at the flight center on the Wasserkuppe. Theory lessons take place concurrently with practical training. The theory exam can be taken every Friday. Missed course days can be made up free of charge.
Guest pilots
Visiting pilots who come to the Wasserkuppe with their hang gliders for paragliding can find information about the flight regulations on the website of the Rhöner Drachen- und Gleitschirmflieger Poppenhausen eV (Poppenhausen Hang Gliding and Paragliding Club). They can also obtain their day ticket there.
Please note:
Due to mixed flight operations, flying on the Wasserkuppe is only possible with a launch director present and a valid day ticket.
