Arrival by car/motorcycle
Easy access by car or motorcycle: Thanks to its central location in the heart of Germany, you can reach the Wasserkuppe quickly and easily!
- From the north or south: Take the A7 motorway, exit at Fulda North or Fulda South, follow the signs to Poppenhausen (Wasserkuppe) and then to Wasserkuppe.
- From the west: The A66 motorway leads to Eichenzell and then the L3307 via Weyhers, Poppenhausen and Abtsroda to the Wasserkuppe.
- From the east: The best route is via the A71 motorway to Bad Neustadt and then on the B279 via Bischofsheim (Rhön) and Gersfeld, or via the A4 motorway to the Kirchheimer Dreieck interchange and then on via the A7 to the Fulda Nord exit.
Electric mobility
Charging stations for electric cars are available in the parking lot at the Rhön Information Center .
Charging facilities for e-bikes are available, for example, at the e-bike shop & rental BIKE950 Wasserkuppe.
Arrival by public transport
Especially on weekends with high visitor numbers, a convenient journey by public transport is recommended.
You can take the train via Fulda to Gersfeld and then a bus to the Wasserkuppe. Alternatively, buses also run directly from Fulda to the Wasserkuppe. Hesse's highest bus stop is located directly between the Gliding Museum and the Hotel Peterchens Mondfahrt.
Parking on the Wasserkuppe
There are several well-signposted parking areas available directly on the Wasserkuppe (parking: €2/day, parking meter and pay by phone).
You can purchase a parking ticket via SMS by sending a text message to 91303. The text message should contain the parking zone number, your license plate number, and the parking duration (for example, t1 for one day).
Shortly before your parking time expires, you will receive a notification and can conveniently extend your parking duration if desired. Example: P5.FDXY123.t1
Motorhome pitches and camping facilities are not directly on the mountain, but are available in the immediate vicinity.

Unfortunately, there are no parking spaces available for motorhomes or camping holidays at the Wasserkuppe parking lots. Motorhome and camping enthusiasts have a selection of very nice and affordable pitches and campsites in the immediate vicinity of the Wasserkuppe:

The 12 generously sized motorhome pitches of the nature sports community Poppenhausen (Wasserkuppe), equipped with state-of-the-art technology, are characterized by their ideal location at the foot of the Wasserkuppe in the Lüttergrund sports and leisure area.

A terraced area with a magnificent view of the Rhön Mountains, 600m above sea level. It lies above the spa town of Gersfeld in the district of Schachen and below the Wasserkuppe, Hesse's highest mountain at 950m.
